Rainscreen Brick Tray System

Description:

From structural brick applications like the Monadnock Building to single wythe constructions featuring essential components such as flashings, ties, relieving angles, netting, weeps, and cavity wall construction, brick technology has evolved significantly. Modern brick systems now include fully engineered rainscreen assemblies that offer enhanced performance, quicker and easier installation, compliance with the latest energy codes, and longevity designed to match the lifespan of the wall itself.

Benefits:
Stainless Steel DURUS trays mark a new era of performance in brick trays

Using 20-gauge 304B stainless steel resolves all concerns regarding corrosion or rust. By opting for stainless steel, both the owner and architect can be assured that this brick assembly will endure for the entire lifespan of the building.

Weep holes are standard along the lower back edge, ensuring that any incidental moisture can readily escape by running down the back of the trays and through the cavity.

Our unique and patented tooth design securely captures bricks from multiple sources, including Belden, Endicott, Metro, and others, eliminating the need for costly customization of the bricks.

Stiffener ribs and a uniform tray base design enhance the structural strength of the tray and act as guides to ensure both vertical and horizontal alignment. The spacing between each tray can be adjusted as needed to align with rough openings in the wall.

Rainscreen Assembly and Water Management

Special care is taken to facilitate optimal water egress and moisture management in the rainscreen façade assembly, considering varying environmental conditions such as wet, cold, or dry climates. Each DURUS tray is equipped with uniform and continuous drainage holes to ensure maximum removal of incidental moisture and water. The two-inch-wide cavity promotes continuous convection airflow within the cavity, helping to keep components as dry as possible.

Galvanized Options

DURUS trays from Desana Partners are also offered in G90 galvanized steel, manufactured in accordance with ASTM A653 standards. This specification governs sheet steel that undergoes continuous hot-dipped zinc coating, a widely adopted process in pre-fabrication steel coating. The resulting coating is uniform, sufficiently ductile to endure deep drawing or bending without coating damage, and predominantly consists of pure zinc.

Sub-Framing Systems

Our fully engineered systems set the benchmark for rainscreen brick systems nationwide. We recognize that not every project necessitates a comprehensive wall system approach. Desana provides three customizable options for your project design. It’s crucial to note that bricks and mortar alone do not create a watertight assembly. Architects, designers, and installers must implement measures to prevent water ingress into the wall or building.

Full Rainscreen Assembly with Rear Ventilation

The full rainscreen system begins with an air/moisture barrier directly applied to the substrate. Thermally isolated brackets are then fastened through the barrier into the structural wall. Insulation is placed over these brackets, which come in depths ranging from 2 inches to 10 inches to accommodate varying thicknesses of insulation, creating an open cavity depth of two inches. Vertical L profiles are securely affixed to the brackets. These specially designed brackets and profiles enable installers to align the wall and eliminate substrate irregularities before installing the first tray. Trays are mounted onto the vertical profiles, and bricks are inserted into the trays.

Cavity System

When a full rainscreen system is unnecessary, simple Z profiles can be installed on a watertight substrate, creating a cavity space ranging from 1 inch to 3 inches. This cavity effectively prevents moisture buildup behind the system.

Direct Applied

During budget constraints, it is feasible to install Durus trays directly onto a watertight substrate. Bricks can then be installed onto these trays and mortared accordingly.
